Abel was born Abel Talamantez Mendoza on October 16, 1979 ( making him a Libra) in Pecos, Texas (USA), to parents Reynaldo and Rosario. Having joined in 1991, Abel has been a member since the Menudo days, and has the longest experience in the group. Abel describes himself as shy, friendly, caring, inquisitive, and serious. He could probably be considered the intellect of the group, and says he likes having opinions and learning new things everyday. He has also described himself to be someone who "craves knowledge and spirituality", and he has also mentioned that he reads self-healing, metaphysical books. In MDO the rest of the guys look to him for advice and his opinion on things. At the same time he also has a mischievous sense of humor--his favorite TV program is the improv comedy show "Whose Line is it Anyway", and he himself is known to throw occasional impromptu comedy (once translating what Pablo meant to say "a girl with inside beauty" to be "a girl with beautiful intestines"). To win Abel's heart, he stresses intelligence as something he looks for in a girl. She also has to be friendly, cheerful, artistic, and loving.
